Curriculum Model

The District CE Curriculum Model

This model brings together the contexts, concepts and values identified by the staff, pupils and governors of The District CE, which underpin and drive our curriculum choices.

Using this as our rationale, the content of our curriculum has been reviewed, redeveloped and mapped out, building on EYFS learning. Progression documents (linked to our assessment statements) have been developed to ensure that all staff are aware of expectations and endpoints. Sequences of learning have been written to build on previous learning: each learning sequence includes opportunities to establish prior learning; develop new vocabulary; revisit key knowledge and skills and assess against core learning statements.

Whilst some of our curriculum projects are bespoke, other subjects currently follow purchased schemes. These schemes have been chosen with our context in mind: they include the content coverage and skills progression identified within our curriculum model. Any schemes have been adapted to further reflect our curriculum model. For example, LCP was chosen as the basis of our PE curriculum: it contains the coverage of National Curriculum PE; supports staff subject knowledge and therefore their pedagogy and teaching confidence; it includes assessment opportunities, key vocabulary and suggestions for differentiation.  Alongside this, we have visiting athletes to promote aspiration; active play, extra-curricular clubs and themed weeks to encourage healthy lifestyles and enrichment opportunities including fencing and wrestling to broaden pupils’ experiences.

Where it has been necessary to form mixed year groups, a two-year curriculum cycle has been developed, which ensures that all pupils experience the full curriculum, whilst working on the relevant skills and expectations for their year group, as outlined in our progression documents.
